I just bought this and slapped it into my Macbook and it FLYS.

I'm amazed at how well my system responds and I didn't realize it was that big jump in performance.

200 GB 16 MB Cache for 142 bucks.

You do loose warrenty but I'm a big risk taker like that :D

Make sure the serial number is DTG or DEG, which means it's 7200 RPM. Anything else will be 5400 RPM.

Its an external drive, why buy an external, I know its pretty cheap for a 200gb laptop drive, but I don't know if its worth the trouble.

not a bad deal but i dont like that its only a 1yr warranty when laptop hard drives are usually 3-5years.

Yup....the 16Mb cache, combined with ther higher RPM will definately lower seek times. Standard OEM lappy drives are rediculously slow.

After further researching the deal I recant my statement. The drive inside is well worth the trouble, because it is a $200 drive at Newegg and is the fastest laptop hard drive you can get at the moment. I am getting one asap!

yes. Most of the time that's true but not in this case. This hard drive goes for 200 dollars on it's own.

Seagate 5 year warranty = I wouldn't use this drive other than as an external. And for $142, I can get a 500+GB 3.5 inch drive after tax with money to spare.

And I've heard the 7200rpm drives suck the battery life pretty hard, any experiences with that?

Well its the fastest laptop sized hard drive available right now. It has very little impact on battery usage. It is damn near silent. It doesn't run hot. It is a damn good deal and makes my Macbook scream compared to the old 60gb drive in it. Plus I have a decent hd enclosure now to use.

I have a 160GB 4200rpm 5400rpm Seagate in my Macbook and am satisfied with the size and performance. I keep most of my data on a file server so it's really more space than I need.

I could never use 4200 RPM, I can't even use 5400 RPM anymore heh.

Probably wouldn't work any better than the 40GB external drive that I got from my company for my notebook now. Actually...I think most of the problems with my external drive is my notebook.

Nice storage solution if I was lookin'.

My bad, 5400rpm is the speed of my drive. I'm a knucklehead.
