So, I worked all of this past week (afternoons, intermittently) swapping out motors in our dump truck. Did it all in our driveway, using our tractor to lift out the motor. Went pretty smooth! Found a replacement motor (out of a wrecked 1981 Chevy 3/4 ton truck, unknown mileage but recently freshened up, $350 with a 30 day warranty from reputable scrap yard) and got started wrenching on Monday. Basically pulled the old motor, swapped over several parts to make the motor functional in my situation (water pump, intake/carb, fuel pump, exhaust manifolds, poser steering pump/brackets, alternator/brackets, and a few other odds and ends), then replaced a few other things (starter, clutch kit, fuel lines, radiator hoses, new oil change, new hose clamps on almost everything, new oil pan/intake/exhaust manifold/rear main seal/valve cover gaskets, new exhaust manifold studs, and a few other things I'm sure I forgot). Got it all buttoned up this morning and lit it off. Runs great! Power is well above and beyond what I expected, and it idles much smoother than the old motor! Now back to work starting tomorrow so we can earn back the $500 we spent on the parts!

Lots of tight stuff happening in this thread. Will, you make it sound like $350 for an old Chevy small block is a good deal, lol. Those can be had for half the price with a warranty if you look around different yards. Oh well, tax writeoff right? :D

    Recently for me:
'98 Expedition with a cylinder #4 misfire. Ended up replacing the coil on that cylinder and doing the plugs. Holy pain in the ass... I can see why the dealer charges what they do. There is no reason for the intake on the 5.4 to be that tall. Makes it a bitch to do anything to the back cylinders, especially on the passenger side with the heater hoses going over everything.

Clutch master cylinder, clutch line, and slave cylinder on a '86 1 ton Chevy dump truck. The owner had poured something that wasn't brake fluid into the clutch master, thus ruining the master, eating up the line, and ruining the slave. Took much longer than it usually does to get pressure back in the clutch pedal after bleeding the system out, so I was worried that the clutch may have gotten fucked up too; but eventually I got pressure back in the pedal. Also fixed the brake lights that didn't work in the back- they needed to be rewired, but my cousin did that.

My dad's instrument cluster backlights went out on his '01 Mercedes S500. Looked through the fuses under the hood, and one of the three fuses for the instrument cluster was burnt out. Replaced it, but it didn't fix the problem. Looked it up online, and found that there is a recall for the cluster backlights going out. So, hopefully he can get that fixed for free and I won't have to touch that car.

Did an inner tie rod on my daily because I had planned on taking it to go drinking in Chicago last weekend with 3 other people, had my car jacked up so I shook the suspension down, I wasn't even aware that there was play in it. But there was, and since I did tie rods on my brother's Civic last year, I warrantied the tie rod and got it for free. The last thing I wanted was to be stuck in the middle of the road and getting a lovely $450 tow from the city. I also ripped the carpet out of my daily because it has so many stains, and I gave up on cleaning it a long time ago since I use it for a parts hauler half the time. It's much cleaner and nicer with no carpet and just the bare metal. Ahh.

Have done a lot more stupid little stuff that I haven't bothered to mention because it isn't worth it... brakes on a Blazer, replaced a tailgate and tail lights on a F150, stuff like that (not that an inner tie rod is worth mentioning either, but I wanted to brag about getting it for free). Blah... still need to clean out the garage while it's still nice outside. Knowing how I procrastinate though, I'll be doing it when I have broken cars piled up outside in the snow and need to get them in the garage, out there cleaning in 20 degree weather.

Yeah, Chevy 350's should be plentiful. But, out this way, you honestly can't find 'em with any sort of a decent warranty. At least not for under $500. I felt pretty happy with that deal! If I were back in Iowa, I could easily come up with a Chevy 350 for ~$150. But, not here.

put together a new-used olympic workout benchset. its everything ive been looking for.
lat pulldown, sliding seat and 90degree setting for presses.

360lbs of olympic plates, along with my already staggering set of standard plates. i got about 450lbs of weight now to play with. Bench came with the weight, a 7ft olympic bar and olympic curl bar. And the guy that sold to me works in IT at work, so i made a new friend for a job opportunity.

need a new pair of workout gloves(calluses are a bitch), a tricep pushdown attachment, and some weight plate trees to make things a bit easier.

i want a squat rack next, and some anti fatigue mats
awaiting my shipment of team xecuter parts and new cr3 chips so i can get started on these xboxes i got laying around.

Well, our dump truck passed it's initial test. Ran great and dumped without any issues!

Today we worked on the first decent sized job we've had in almost two weeks (while we fixed the dump truck). Three large Oak trees (two White Oaks, and one Pin Oak) that we needed to do a Class III Trim on and raise the canopies. My business partner started off climbing, then threw out his back (while up in the tree) so he had to come back down. So, I went up and finished up the first tree and ended the day. Nothing too tough, but haven't climbed in a while. Got to play monkey and swing around the tree. Tacked a few new tasks (just some weird situations from the tree), and learned some new tricks from my business partner. My arms and back aren't too happy with me right now. Need to climb more often and keep these muscles in check!

finally did the bushings/struts/lca's for my mom's es300
went with KYB struts all around, and moog bushings.. all other rubber components like mounts and boots were from lexus..
got her some new tires too and an alignment (spent around $2000) in just parts!

she says the car feels good, but it is TOO stiff
how long do struts usually take to settle?

Finished my engine, yeah! Just have to find time to drop it in.

    Been busy with customer cars...

  12. Turns out I'm still alive. This is what I've been doing inbetween shifts. I added some power, an outside speaker jack, and a switch to control my rear window.

    yeah
  16. I like smoking... A lot!

Seriously though, camera charger, laptop charger, cell phone. Just whatever needs power. I'm building the truck to camp in it, so power would always be nice.

  21. Distrobution block is from vatozone
cigarette lighters are from cycle gear. They come with handlebar mounts that I threw away.
Fuse holder I stole from my friend's garage. Probably also at Vatozone.

    That's a lot of 12v outlets! Lol

You may pick up some alternator EMI from running the speaker wires across the 12v wires like that (with the engine running anyway). Just something to consider. ;)
