    Anyone fight a ticket?

A while back I posted about it. After trying to find a table of speeding fines, I found a web site on how to fight a ticket.

Officer said he trailed me to get how fast I was going. So he needs records of his speedometer being calibrated, etc etc... to prove I was going as fast as he said I was.

I'm thinking about trying this. Or maybe he just won't show up.

It's not like I'm trying to screw the cops. I know I was over, but I just don't want to pay such a huge fine. I haven't sped since :)

Every ticket I've seen has a table of the speeds & fines on the back of it. Did you ask to see the speedometer yourself? Did he refuse to let you? If so then thats grounds to get it reduced, if not thrown out. You might be able to get the ticket reduced just by showing up and promising to drive safer in the future.

Innocent til proven without a reasonable doubt.

    I told him I didn't think I was going that fast. I really didn't.

I fought one ticket, and it was a parking ticket at the University of Cincinnati, so it wasn't even real cops / courts. I had a piece of shit 1983 Escort that I had parked on an icy parking lot, and when I came back someone had tapped my car and it slid partially into another parking spot and campus police had given me a ticket for taking up two spots! I made those fuckers look like fools in the law college's court. So much so that the judge reamed their ass for wasting my time.

As for your ticket, unless it's a high dollar ticket just pay it. You probably won't win and will end up paying court costs to boot.

It's almost 300$ and even if I just pay for it they charge court costs anyways. (I know wtf? but I checked it out..)

    Edit:

Oh and I just mailed in the ticket. I'm just payin' for it.

ya, i had a $300 ticket. i was going 30mph in a school zone but didnt know it. i was lost and never really been to the area and i was gonna ask a cop i saw on the sidewalk for directions but he said he was actually gonna give me a ticket. It got reduced to $190 since i dont have any other tickets. i'm a good driver. my friends would crack on me cuz i actually drive the speed limit. well, i guess it pays off since i save $110. the judge even commented on my good record.

They don't need proof of how fast you're going. They can guess how fast you're going.

    Why?!?!

Allways goto court and fight it if it means points on your license, never "just pay it". The prosecutor will ALLWAYS be willing to cut you a deal. You might pay an extra $50 or so on the fine, but they can drop all the points for you saving money in the long run with insurance surcharges and shit.

And if you would have gone to court you would have gotten a much cheaper ticket, if not completely dropped. I don't know a single person who hasn't gotten atleast half the price of the ticket dropped on there first offence, most people get off completely.

You can pretty much make up any excuse you want and they’ll take it. Your paying for the court date in the ticket anyways, you might as well use it.

Assuming the cop actually shows up, witch there is a decent chance he doesn't (dropped ticket) ask him to show you the documentation for his speedometer/radar gun being calibrated witch needs to be done every few years and never get done on time, if he can’t, Ticket dropped. Even if he has it, were there any other cars around you? My friend got off completely because he was at a busy area of town and told the judge the cop tagged someone else’s car and that he wasn’t speeding.

Honestly, on your first ticket, if your excuse is remotely logical there’s an extremely good chance the ticket will be dropped.
