The latest weekend threads, the three day long Capital Hill Block Party: Not the best of views, but clearly another perfect weekend to be outdoors. One of the bars, this was some corny 'Vitamin Water Social Club' but it had $3 PBR tall boys, so it seemed like one of the better deals of the weekend. (we later found a much better place to drink) Some local hip-hop at the Neumos stage. Two friends of mine in the crowd. This was MGMT on the mainstage. I'm not a big fan, but I was interested to see them at least. The show was pretty bad to be honest, especially the sound, so we only watched a few songs before going back to the smaller stage. ..and it was a much better show inside. Yours truly, heading home for the evening. The next morning, a little double-dutch. Just a picture I kind of liked, the techs getting the stage ready. A hot day at the main stage. This was the real drink special of the weekend, $2 Tecate tall-boys! Naturally, this became the watering hole for the weekend. I forget which band this was, and am too lazy to look it up Me and the fellas. Oh noes, clowns! (I swear they were just around to drink and holler at girls) Such as my friends I suppose !!! on the main stage. It was an OK show, but I saw them on Coney Island at the Village Voice music festival (forget what that festival was called) and that show was much better. At the smallest stage of the event, the Cha Cha stage. Hot, sweaty rock and roll. These guys were good. And then for the main stage event of the night, Atmosphere. I've seen them a few times, and this was a good show, but not my favorite. Some crowd surfing. That night I joined the dark side Sunday, yet another fantastic day for a show. I walked around the park for a while before heading into the crowd. Mike McGinn, the mayor of Seattle addressing the crowd. This is the Blue Scholars, Seattle hip hop. We got front to back, side to side, yo Ehhhhhhhhh!!!! And more crowd surfing. This was the main stage closer, The Dead Weather. What a show, probably in my top ten. The pounding drums, loud guitar and snarling vocals, totally bad ass. Some guy climbing up the pole. And the final song. Tecate time. Victor Shade, more local hip hop. A view from above the stage. This was a great show, and a fun way to end a weekend of music. Playing on the playground. And making new lady-friends at the swing set! All in all, another great weekend. It's been a while since I've gone to a live show, and this has certainly got me pumped to get out and see more music. In two hours or so, I'm off to the Tetons area, should be a great week.
I think I might have become antisocial, because that doesn't look like any fun to me at all. Maybe I need to start taking those ADD/OCD meds after all... aranoid: But seriously, am I the only one who sees those crowded pics as totally unappealing?
I'm the same way. I'm not sure if it's age or anti-social behavior but it doesn't look like fun to me now. Maybe earlier in my life though.
lol. I feel really old nowadays. Working and taking care of the kid are long hours! I did just diagnosed with sleep apnea so I'm sure that doesn't help either. Never heard of this Dead Weather band...what would you compare them to?
Jack White is in it (White Stripes, etc), so it's loud fast guitar rock.
good pics man. i was a bit closer than you to the left at the dead weather show. it was a great show, i hadn't listened to that band much before yesterday but they were amazing.
its not (necessarily) age - I'm 23 and I hate crowds that size, I like smaller groups 950 - a large chunk of your friends look like hipsters. on that note, I am going to see "maps and atlASSes" tonight with some hipster friends. I don't like teh band at all but I have already committed. fuck.
Crowds always make me think pickpocketing would be a good skill too I haven't been to a big concert in so long. Hell, not even any local shows lately.
I would rather be in the crowd at a good concert than up in seats. I think it depends on the crowd though, i find big events pretty exciting! I definitely l dont like being shoved or shoving people to get by, i feel guilty lol. Dang, so many awsm weekend threads, awsm lol
No, no they are not. A few are a bit, but my core group are fairly anti-hipster actually. If you think my friends look like hipsters, you don't know true hipsterdom Travis, we tried to meet up with you, I thought you got hit in the head or something??
yea, some jackass crowd surfed over me and i got an elbow to the temple. after the show i just wanted to go sit down because i was feeling a little concussed. i think it was probably a combo or dehydration and standing for a long time, i was ok after i sat down for a while and got some water.
Yeah, definitely not hipsters. Average northwesterner = hipster in any other part of the country. The NW hipsters are the ones you need to watch out for...
I was the only one with no beard or plaid or skinny jeans last night. I think me and the one black guy there were the only ones who could be described rather distinctly from the crowd. Maps and atlasses sucks ass. the other 2 bands were pretty good though also, a bit defensive. is that like you're not a hipster if you admit you are? maybe its just the thick black rimmed glasses speaking of seattle hipsters, this was one of the bands last night: http://www.myspace.com/theglobes (here is the other one: http://cults.bandcamp.com/ - they were awesome live but their recordings suck)
I thought you were in DC for like half of those photos then I realized you weren't and felt cheated. You cheated me.
fiddy didn't skeez on girls with his photos but trust me, the block party is the place to go to see attractive women.
