Just curious. I have read that if you have a north american PSP, and that changing the firmware to japanese will still not allow you to play japanese UMD movies on the thing. Why is this? IS there any way around it?

I ask becuase they have FF7 Advent children for UMD at liksang.com

I spose I could buy the dvd and convert it to psp mp4 but I don't have a 2gig stick for full quality, let alone want to dedicate that much memory on the stick for just one movie that I want that kind of quality on.

    any ideas?

I thought that the psp was region locked for anything, games, movies, etc?

If u check sandisk.com you can see that they finally have a 2gig in production. I searched around and a few places are selling it for about 120-150$USD wich is awesome! Since the US doller is pretty shitty right now, thats not to bad for us canadians.

Anyways, yes the psp's are region locked, but I always thought it was in the firmware.

Advent Children was pretty bad, I wouldn't waste the effort.

wait a sec are you guys sure he cant play the movie??? I had a US version psp for about 3 weeks (brought it with me on a trip to japan) and I had no problem playing japanese psp games. The game box says the game has a different region code, but I was still able to play it. I dont know if its the same for movies tho.

Thats becuase, (first time ever) sony agree'd to make NON-region coded games for the PSP. Japanese/English/European games are all interchangable with all versions of the PSP. THe UMD's however, are not.

Normally I'd ask this question on pspupdates forums, but I got banned..

You can play Japanese games, but you can't play movies, they are region encoded.

Why would you need 2 gigs for a quality that small?

I got banned for 'mock' cursing apparently. Along with stating a clear fact that the moderator didn't agree with. Whatever..

The 2gigs isn't needed for just the movie. I should have been more clear when I said I needed 2 gigs. I want to keep all my music and shit on the stick as well as a movie. So I need about 800megs for the movie, and about 700 megs for the other shit.

A 2 gig stick would be nice... Not available in canada just yet..

So any more ideas on how to play a region coded UMD for japan on a NA psp?

    I don't know what I was thinking in my original post but what I ment to say was;
I thought the psp wasn't region locked.

For games I know this to be true but for movies I don't know.

You can play any games you want, movies are locked into their regions.

Too bad you couldn't buy a UMD sort of like a gameshark, except for region free movie play. Pop in the region changer UMD, run it, then insert movie.
