I got into it with my apartment complex because when I signed the lease, I discussed with them that I didn't want to set up autopay and thus was not giving them my routing information. Maybe I'm getting old but giving some company access to my bank account just rubs me the wrong way. You provide a service, then you get paid. Not just "take the money no matter what." They said no problem, but you still have to use our online portal to pay. I was shown the online portal, there were about 7 different options to pay with via the portal. Bank account, debit/credit card with a $3 processing fee, MoneyGram (given a pay number and you pay it at Walmart or wherever), Western Union, etc. So cool -- I can do one of those. No problem. So I sign the lease. Not 4 months later I come home and everyone has a notice in their door. "Surprise! We've redesigned our online portal and moved to a new company. Please follow these instructions to get set up on the portal!" So I go to the portal. You are now given ONE option to pay: autopay via bank account. I went into the office and talked to the employee in there, she gets snarky and pulls my lease out. "You agreed to pay using our online portal." Yes, I did, if you recall we went through the portal and there were 7 different options within the portal. There is now one, and one only. I explained that you can't show me "this is how it works", have me sign, and then later on change it around and say the same rules still apply. I asked her if I could just drop off a check. She said "We don't normally accept checks, and you signed..." Yeah, I know. We discussed that a minute ago. So I got up and left. Went back the next day and dropped off a check. Haven't heard anything one way or another, but at this point if I can get out of my lease I'd be one happy camper. The management plus them taking fucking forever to fix things, and the ridiculous monthly rent is just too much. I should've just bought a house. But I'm not even sure I want to stay in (this part of) Florida. Or in Florida at all, really. Debating on just giving them a month notice and saying I'm leaving and not paying the rest of the rent for the remainder of the lease (I'd pay the month). If you want to come after me, no problem, here's my lawyer's information.
Weren't you the person in Bradenton or Sarasota that I missed last year? You could set up a 2nd bank account and have your bank transfer some money into it every month.

Yup. And I did think of that, but that's letting them win. I don't know. Maybe I'm immature, maybe I'm stubborn, maybe I just really don't fucking like the place, but hey.
