Safeway has been here longer than Albertsons and Fred Meyer/Kroger. At least since 1963 that I can vividly remember. IGA used to be the biggy back then but are gone now. Most Albertsons are gone after the Hagens bought them out and subsequent Hagens bankruptcy. Albertsons owns Safeway so there's not as many of those left either.
Safeway was there in the 70's. Albertsons is still around in CA. All the Albertsons out here in Utah turnred int Fresh Market (same owner different name). Smiths is where I shop.
Crazy! We have IGA Safeway Save On Foods PriceSmart superstore buy low foods and a whole bunch of farmers markets. I thought those were Canadian stores.
