You are laughing at the denial of their civil rights. This isn't a link to The Onion... it's a serious thing and you think it's funny. You are just proving the point. Telling me I have no humor is a copout - the point is you're posting this shit because you think it's FUNNY that this is happening. You're an asshole and I'm calling you on it. Your best response is I don't have humor. Why don't you do what any decent human would do and go knock those stupid fucking signs down?
That's what you THINK I was laughing at. I was laughing at the dastardly tactic, the incredibly dirty low blow. Oh well, fuck it. At least this thread has served a purpose in that I had mistaken you for someone reasonable and cordial towards me, and now I know differently.
Damn! I originally thought MSP was making fun of the stupidity of erecting such a sign, that's why my comment was about the lack of logic. On a serious note, voter suppression is a real thing and it's disgraceful, not only because it's happening but because not a single damn republican is calling it out. They dont even try to hide their intentions! I've never voted down party line but this election I think I will, republicans at every level, have proven party first before country.
^^^ Yeah, frankly I'm kinda wishing for them to be punished hard in November. If the party would fall apart completely then perhaps something moderate could form from the ashes. EDIT: So I'm a racist and an asshole now. Couldn't have been you simply mistook my intent. Naaaah. Just out of morbid curiosity, how long has the snake been in the grass Dan? Such is the trouble with casual written communication in forum form. You mistook me for all these things, and I mistook you for a lot more than you turned out to be.
Your intent seems awfully racist, I would wager if you posted this on Reddit or your Facebook with the same text and a grinning icon, people would think, "Gee that guy is a racist" -- it looks entirely as though you're grinning about the situation because you think it's funny - not "outrageous" -- if you're grinning because it's dirty, I don't think that's much better. If I'm wrong and your intent was as shane said (seems a convenient excuse for you to let this simmer, but again I'm clearly seeing it different), I'm truly sorry. I have had several people tell me over the years, "MSP is a racist", in person, on AIM and in PM conversations. Even twice over this exact thread without me bringing it up and this weighs into my bias. Perhaps your message is often clouded by using terms and phrases that are misinterpreted by these people, and perhaps I'm too sensitive to some of these. But it does appear I'm not the only one that sees things this way. It looks as though you had shared your "hilarious" reaction to something that's hugely at another race's expense, then played it off in the lightest way possible to avoid all responsibility and make us look bad. I think that's crazy. I'd guess that everyone here is on par with your intelligence, and many would see this as an easy way for you to brush off / turn around the comments you've said in the past. As you said it's just text on a forum and yeah maybe I'm thinking too much into it and seeing it wrong. I guess that is indeed my fault if I'm mistaken. Maybe we can meet in person one day and really understand each other. I think what crowchaser wrote sums up my thoughts pretty clearly -- this is modern day Jim Crow and something we should be ashamed of.
The United States of America is a nation where people are not united because of those three glaring frailties: racism, injustices and inequities. ~Yuri Kochiyama
I'll be the first to admit I will use language that is sometimes extreme to either make a point or to get a rise out of someone, sometimes it's in bad taste. I see MSP do this quite often as well so if he says his intent wasn't to be racist or laugh at the "ignorant" then I'll take him at his word, I'd want the same benefit given to me. If this was some random message board no doubt would be given but here we all have history and know each other pretty well. I think we can all agree that the level of ignorance and stupidity in this country is getting out of hand and in my opinion it's not discriminative (see the thread I created about it).
You're not sorry and that's OK. This flushed you out and for that I'm grateful. I may be an asshole because I say what's on my mind in an open forum, but it sure beats the the kind of person that does so when someone's back it turned. Sniveling. Oscar Wilde once said "A good friend will always stab you in the front."
I think it shows just how important this issue is and how serious it's becoming. I just don't understand the lack of outrage from all Americans on this issue. Rights should be expanded not limited and yet the right is pushing to limit people's rights, whether it's abortion or voting.
wtf. someone please explain how this intimidates people? its supposed to intimidate people that do illegal shit. wtf is wrong with people
I saw this exact same billboard like an hour ago. It was right off the expressway on like 102nd & Greenfield in West Allis which is the blue-collar "working class" part of the metro area... I call it "White Trash Allis", the name fits very well... so there goes the "just for blacks" thing.
There does tend to be a "force' that wants there to always be a downtrodden masses. What better carrot-on-a-stick? From the movements in the sixties, I'd of thought that things would be way better by now. But people like having ghettos. It lets them know that they are not the ones on the bottom wrung. Having been there done that I can say beyond a reasonavble doubt, that every single human living at the bottom feels every single emotion that persons further up the ladder feel. In most cases even more so. Myself, i treat everyone as I'd like to be treated and financial status doesn't even come into play. People of all types just want to be treated right.
so why should felons be exterminated? i was charged with a felony when i was 18 for doing something stupid. my boss is a felon, he owns a multi million dollar company.
And a lot of things that were felonies 30 years ago, are misdeamenors now. Besides there being too big of a percentage of wrongly convicted people sitting in our prisons. I'm of the belief, that a lot of talk concerning "discouraging minorities from voting" is not much more than political party fervor: A tool to discredit an opposing party. Personally, I don't see it and I'm not republican or democrat. Then again, I don't live in a big metro region either.
As long as a felon has paid their debt to society I see no reason they shouldn't vote. Everybody makes mistakes, particularly when they were young.
I personally think it depends on the felony. If you're convicted of a violent felony, there's probably a good chance you have issues following along with society and therefore shouldn't be allowed to help run in IMO.
Of course some chink would say some shit like that. (racism is what's wrong with this country... calling guy a chink is being racist... that's the joke.jpg lulzcakes)
Putting up billboards telling people voter fraud is a crime on the same block some dude is selling crack on the street? Maybe we should post signs at NRA meetings declaring murder is illegal. That'll stop 'em! I'm pretty sure if voter fraud is actually happening out there no one gives a fuck about the legality of it. Not only is this shameful, it just proves how dimwitted the GOP is right now.
Voter fraud always came to me as one of the dumbest crimes you could commit. Huge risk for zero payout. I can understand why people commit crimes for personal gain... monetary gain, emotional gain, whatever... but risking your ass so the candidate you want gets one more vote that isn't going to matter anyways? Stupid.
^^^ Yeah, which is why it basically never happens here. At least not on a personal level. Any corruption we're likely to see would be some county election official, or in the case of the 2000 election the Supreme Court.
There has to be some controversy to smoke-screen the real plotical phenageling that gets politicians elected. Voters only get to think they count anyhow.
