The average American drinks almost 2 sodas a day? Using a 12 oz standard, that's crazy. People need to learn to mix their soda with alcohol, will cut down on the amount you consume!
Personally I hate all of this defeatist talk. We're a great nation with problems, in the middle of an identity crisis. A minor challenge compared to some we've already overcome.
That's a concesion I'll make. It's not so much "defeatist" as it is alarmist. We're in a lot better place than most countries. But......it doesn't stay that way by itself. there's always going to be a constant uphill battle against the forces hell bent on taking the liberties we take for granted. the very worst thing we, as a people, can do is to sit back and believe it'll always be this way. Our way of life demands vigilance. Once our "identity crisis" no longer is a detriment, we need to make sure the outcome is nothing like this: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012...120823?feedType=RSS&feedName=worldNews&rpc=76
this the us needs to make changes, but we are nowhere near the woe is me we are going to die that everyone seems to think
Let's make damn sure it doesn't get to that point. That's my point, it always has been. Complacency has no advantage here.
What we can all do individually to help is to push for a strong, real centrist party. The Dems moving right, the Repubs moving left, or better still a new 3rd party. We're all part of the problem as long as we continue to support these bums, neither party represents us...
I think you guys are all debbie downers. We're still pretty strong and I'd rather live in the US than China. Our company started a location in India about 2 years ago and they have not been able to turn anything over. We are guessing in 2 years it will all come back. The people I have dealt with out there are morons and not capable of doing anything right.
Going to third (?) this as well. I also think we're a stagnant nation that has become comfortable and complacent with a lot of things. You can blame it on a social net that has prevented millions from starving or on Nixon opening relations to China and flooding the US with cheap goods or on a comfortable middle class enjoying unprecedented wealth and freedoms. However, we've got a declining middle class, an inefficient healthcare system, and a corrupt political donation system that all need to be addressed. I think that without the great boogiemen of starvation, ultra capitalists, Hitler, Stalin, etc, America seems to have lost its will to better itself in many regards. Perhaps Orwell was right, Oceania needs to stay at war with the world.
I'm just too patriotic to bash or give up on my country yet. I don't know what we should do as far as a next step.
Who said anyone here was bashing or giving up on this country? We all voice are concerns and issues we see and that means we are bashing America? I don't think so. I'm just as patriotic as anyone else, in fact I'm so patriotic that I'm willing to point out my countries faults and ways to fix them as opposed to ignore them. You have a child who really loves playing sports does pointing out their areas of opportunity mean you hate your kids? I don't think so. One might argue that not helping your kid to improve would be the real fucked up thing to do.
I don't know. Who said anyone was bashing or giving up? I certainly didn't. Why do I have to continually ask you to reread my posts? Do you not comprehend what you're reading all the time or is it just my posts? I've reread your posts on this thread. I couldn't find one instance of you offering up a solution. You made some good points about some of our problems though. Have enough people "Chimed in" for you to now educate us on how to fix our current state of affairs? As I said, I personally don't know what our next step is or should be. I'm not ready to close the chapter on the book of The U.S. I'm going stand by my country and ride this out. Now having said that, I don't think you're unpatriotic nor am I bashing YOU or anyone else.
Alright, then I apologize, that was the impression I was getting from your post. If that's not what you were emplying then I read way too much into it.
Yeah, not being all Ren and Stimpy (happy-happy-joy-joy) in no way equates to bashing or being a debby downer. Shit needs fixed. Fix it or let it fall apart....it's your world now.
What do you guys think about the statements that Obama is selling out the U.S. to the United Nations and trying to do away with the Constitution? I ask because I over heard some guys talking about it at a restaurant the other day.
LOL Its probably true. Although I have no idea how one would sell ones country to the UN, plus wasn't our UN ambassador unanimously confirmed by both parties? Oh and he is most certainly trying to do away with the constitution, it is after all, his administration that has proposed repealing the 14th amendment and I'm pretty sure it's Obama that wants to get rid of the 17th amendment too!. http://www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs.../25/14th-Amendment-Repeal-Push-Is-Un-American http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/13/pete-hoekstra-17th-amendment_n_1772656.html From Carl Roves play book: Accuse your opponent of the very thing you are doing.
Want a conspiracy? What if........just what if they are discouraging voting/democracy by the very way political campaigns are run and who they allow us to vote for? [/aranoid:] The constitution is slowly going the way of the dodo simply by people being affraid, out of fear of law suits and persecution, to excercise their rights. We the people are doing it to ourselves. We are allowing known liers, cheats and thieves to steal us blind.
