Ok fair enough then. We agree on something. So there we have it. Either you're calling Obama stupid or he was just looking to get elected. And for the record......if something is unproven yet you hypothesis that it could be.......you're a moron. That should shut down the debate on global warming and extraterrestrials and........anything else you can think of that can't be proven. Kind of a Pandora's Box. If you look back through history I wonder how many folks were proven to not be stupid on any given subject. Do we think we're so advanced that we have a grasp on everything that's unproven? Does our current technology unravel the keys to the universe? Does anyone know yet if time travel or going the speed of light is even possible? Maybe we're no different from those who believed the earth was flat or that using leeches cured illness? We have it better than our grandparents and our grandchildren will have it better than us. More things in life will be explained for them than we in our current time could even fathom. All we can do is guess or hypothesis or hope without the fear of being called stupid. I digress. This isn't meant to be about if God exists.
You lost me there. What's the difference between NO evidence and simply unproven? What makes you think there is NO evidence whatsoever of God? How can you be so certain about it? By the way, I'm agnostic.
Unproven to me just means there's evidence, but we don't quite understand it yet. i.e. everything that exists. No evidence is well, bullshit. It's some guy telling you he has a Ferrari, but his garage is empty, no one has ever seen him drive it and there is no record of a person selling it to him. I call myself atheist, but I suppose I'm agnostic. If someone could truly provide solid, undisputable evidence that God exists, then I would obviously be a fool to continue denying God's existence.
Well when everything on this planet and in space can be proven by science.........not just guesses and maybes......then I'll be sold on being an atheist. Until then, I will NEVER call religion or the people that believe in a God........stupid. But back to Obama.........Rev Wright was his spiritual mentor, not just a guy he listened to on Sundays. He's a racist most likely. I don't believe he went to church to get elected, I believe as I stated before, he left his church to get elected.
You want me to make a blanket statement that everyone that listens to Rush shares 100% of his opinions? I can't say that sorry and I can't say that everyone that believes in religion is stupid either. I can't make blanket statements like that and say them as if I knew them to be 100% accurate. I can say that there are definitely people that listen to Rush or go to church that may be by definition, brainwashed. But to say that everyone is or even a majority are brainwashed would be an outright lie. If you can make that kind of statement then we are more different than I thought.
That's the whole point of that website though! That kind of mindset is exactly what the author of the site is trying to say is ridiculous! He's not saying that creating such sites or using such tactics are ok but rather that they are ridiculous and are based on lies and half truths at best and do nothing for America or for debate!
Here is a good review of Glenn Beck: (videos) Top 10 Reasons Not to Advertise With Glenn Beck: Pics, Videos, Links, News And this is his most epic meltdown I have seen yet: YouTube - FOX's Glenn Beck Defends His Insane Rant To Caller
lol, I haven't seen someone get that angry since I was little. It's silly though to pretend you're ever actually having a debate on the radio. Whenever the opposite party is talking you sit there looking for something to pick apart. No one ever listens, and all it ever becomes is a shouting match until they both "agree to disagree". I really don't understand why people put so much effort into this shit.
but he still could have a ferrari. there is no proof that he doesn't. if you're open to the possibility of god at all, then you are athiest I'm aware. But you're justifying the website by saying "well, Glenn Beck does it", yet you have flipped on people for arguing torture is ok because they do it to us...?
The difference is that Beck is using his position to spread lies and misinformation, the website isn't in place to spread lies and misinformation, it's being used to discredit the tactics Beck uses to spread his lies and misinformation. There is a difference. It would be similar to me condoning the torture of a radio show host so that he could prove that water boarding is indeed torture. I'm not condoning torture I approving of the message such a statement generates. YouTube - Mancow Waterboard Now if the website was created with the sole intent of spreading lies, I most definitely would have condemned such ridiculousness!
You're free to interpret my posts however you like and draw your own conclusions, Tac. I'm an atheist. To me, it's inconceivable that a person who is otherwise logical can believe in a fairy tale. Christian fundamentalists are loonies. Most Christian fundamentalists are conservative and, therefore, more likely to vote Republican. You can believe whatever you want, just respect my right to do the same. You don't have to respect my beliefs.
The burden of proof falls on the guy who claims he owns the Ferrari. BTW, the sun and the moon used to be considered Gods. Now we know they're celestial bodies. As science advances, things that are assumed to be supernatural will be explained.
Since this thread has turned some what towards believe or disbelieve of religion and god. I like to know. People who dont believe in god and stuff, simply say prove it. Make sense to me very logical thing to ask. But what kind of proof are they looking for? Ghostly presence, Being made of energy, or anti matter... Just curious what kind of proof will it take to make individual believe in presence of god... I am not religious or any thing. Just curious.
I'm not looking for proof of something I know can't exist. There's no ghosts, no fairies, no leprechauns, etc. Deities are an impossibility.
For me any "proof" would have to meet the same criteria as any other scientific theory that is proposed has to meet. This is so off topic though!
We always end up talking about something else entirely. It's too late to turn the ship around now, though.
But I do respect your beliefs Ivanolo. You assume too much. I've got no problem with them. I can say however that Most Atheists are Liberal and therefore more likely to vote Democrat. Christian Fundamentalists are not ALL loonies. Are you calling all true practicing Muslims, Buddhists, Scientologists, and others all "Loonies" as well? I don't see that from your party and you have to see it or acknowledge it as well I hope? There is a huge disdain for Christianity yet a PC type approach to other religions. I don't see you others demeaning Muslims for believing in Allah for example. Just Republican Texans that believe Jesus was here once. C'mon.......now criticize the Jews that say he wasn't but, believe in his father. Never.......everyone is off limits except for Christians. Judging by the polls......they've had enough of the bashing and condescending nature of those that believe otherwise. But then again, this country is stupid. You've made a point I stated earlier. As science evolves, maybe our understanding of other things other than celestial bodies will as well.....thus proving or disproving the existence of God.
There are more fundamentalist Christians than fundamentalist Muslims in the USA, and they're trying to influence policy making. That's what bothers me. As for Muslims, Jews, Scientologists, and any other group of people who believe what I consider to be BS, well, yeah, they're loonies. BTW, that comment about respecting my right to believe whatever I want was not specifically directed at you, Tac. Argh! I'm having problems with the website.
thats fine. you still cannot say "you didnt prove it so it doesnt exist" though. er, you could, but that isn't true I resent that statement There's actually two types of country redneck down here. The bible-thumping, "they took our jerbs" kind, and another. I know a bunch of people who live in the country, are atheist as hell, don't mind gays/blacks/etc., but are republican because they basically hate the government and expect democrats to make it bigger and more invasive
Is it unreasonable to deduct from this that he doesn't own a Ferrari? Those things are evidence of absence.
