I understand what you mean about the importance of a pause sometimes, especially in politics where each word you say will be dissected when you're in the spotlight. However, pausing insinuates you have something to say but are holding it back for a moment to maybe reword it. In the instance I referred to it seemed more of a loss for words because of a tough question. Basically a "deer in headlights" moment and the exact reason why the McCain won't let her be interviewed as much as we deserve to see. (This makes me miss Tim Russert even more because I'd love nothing more than to have seen her, alone, on Meet The Press in front of him.)
God, politics make me sick. Imagine how much more qualified you guys would be to make the proper educated decisions come Nov. if all the time each parties used trying to smear the others name was spent actaully explaining in real, transparent detail how each candidate was going to do to improve your country and how they can be held accountable if they do not. Our politics are a joke as well, but at least our decisions are mostly irrelevant
Well it was a "Gotcha" question to be for sure. I'm just curious if Gore could have been so sure on Clinton's record as Governor or, Cheney on Bush's....etc. It's easier for Biden to know Obama's record if he was grilled on something so inane because Obama has been running for President for what, 19 months? That means he was a senator for less than 2 years.
The candidates don't have answers, because the don't have answers. i'm sick of politics too. I maintain that this is all just a big joke on the citizens of the USA. A joke that has implications for the rest of the world. Sad thing really, that we, as citizens of humanity, have come to this. there are times, though infrequent, that I am ashamed at what the USA represents. (speaking soley on politics)
I for one don't look at her speaking skills as such a big deal. Biden and Obama and McCain have been in the national spotlight for years and have become quite skilled at answering such question. She's the awkward kid by comparison, but it doesn't mean she isn't intelligent or won't make a good vice president. And in fact middle America will probably be gravitated to it, because she doesn't talk like a car saleman and they can relate to her.
If McCain doesn't show up tonight, they should fly in Barr and another 3rd party candidate for the debate. It would be such an amazing clusterfuck.
Quite the opposite, I think. Watching her interviews where she takes long pauses, answers questions with questions, repeats the same talking points and stammers every other response doesn't make me gravitate towards her. I'm for Obama/Biden, but I'm more than willing to go on the fence in this election. I just haven't been brought to that point by McCain/Palin.
For all of our faults and our mistakes. For all of our infighting between different cultures and beliefs. This is still the one country that the underprivileged from around the world gravitate toward the most. We're damn lucky to call ourselves Americans. I've never been ashamed to be one or, for what she represents. I love my country. If this makes me what some of you would call a moronic, blind patriot, sobeit. I'm not one of these "Cut and Run" type of people. You won't hear me say something as stupid as "If (enter candidate here) is elected, I'm moving my family out of the country" nonsense. America is a great country no doubt. I have definitely felt ashamed many many times from the actions of our government but will continue to support the country overall. However, if we continue to have administrations such as the Bush administration then I will probably want to leave. In 4 years I will have my degree, speak several languages, and have many more valuable skills. I hope we can turn this country around, if not I am gone. And BTW ahahahaah, wtf? McCain is already back in the election... He just announced he will be attending the debate. What a crock of shit, political stunt that was. What a joke!!!!!!!

Isn't The White House in Washington? It's hard to believe Obama FINALLY showed some guts and decided to agree to a debate. He's been somewhat cowardly and sheepish about debating McCain up until now. Odd.
I don't know where you are getting that idea. The reason he didn't want to join McCain on his pointless "8 round town hall debate" thing is because well, he doesn't want to be following McCains lead and play by McCains game. Plus who the hell wants to watch 10+ debates between the two?? It only takes two or three for both parties to get their traditional lines out. It has NOTHING to do with being afraid to debate. If anything, McCain is scared to debate Obama, because he was the one trying to get out of tonight's debate, which is the historic debate format and time period going back to Kennedy/Nixon. In my opinion standing by and doing nothing when the government is abusing their power or not adhering to what the constitution tells us, is no more a patriot than someone who is willing to move out of the country because they don't like where this country is going.

I like this country, I have no plans to jump ship, but I think it's odd that just because you were born somewhere you're expected to pledge allegiance to it. What if I were born in Iran but didn't agree with the current policy? Would you label me selfish or a betrayer for wanting to move somewhere I feel is better for me? I realize it's an extreme example, but I think patriotism should only be called into play if you're in the military or you're in politics. Otherwise people should be able to live wherever they please whenever they please. That's true freedom.
I stand corrected yet again! But I'm amazed that Obama got a seat at the table frankly. He hasn't exactly been a mover and shaker in Congress. And if not for being charismatic and black he would have never gotten the Democratic nomination in the first place.
