McCain suspends campaign, calls for Obama to do same - CNN.com Crazy, well this is going to be interesting... if McCain really is going to commit himself to this problem I am all for it. But if he suddenly jumps back in at election time its just a well planned move. Should be interesting to see how this develops. I don't think we should put off the election though because Bush has to go...
Is it just me or does it seem like Obama was the one that proposed this? It looks like the article was updated but here is the gist of what I'm talking about: Before the update the article said Obama's camp called 8:30am wednesday to ask McCain to suspend the race.
I think it's genuine. This financial crisis is the real deal, kudos for him focusing on it. That said, it's also a brilliant move. Obama almost has to follow suit, and having not been the first to do so it looks badly on him.
Oh boy! He's more patriotic than Obama! I will surely vote for him!</sarcasm> Seriously, fuck this move.
But Obama still wants the debate to go as planned. Why? He's turned down McCain's invitation to have a small town meeting several, several times. I don't understand why either.
I'm sure its just another stunt to get votes... does this mean if Obama and McCain both step out Ron Paul is going to come in and take the election?!
That would be great to see McCain 100% out and Obama continue on to take the election. Obama is clearly the better public speaker and would probably come out ahead in those debates, who knows why he rejected the offer.
Who here has actually changed their mind on who they are going to vote for because of obama or mccain flying around on their private jets and shaking peoples hands? they should both be doing their jobs
This is like the dumbass bully in 1st grade that used to pick on the smart kid. Then, when it came time for school projects, he asked him to join his group for help. What a publicity stunt...
I strongly agree with this move by McCain. It shows that he is trying to solve the problem, rather than use it in aiding his presidency. Campaigning does help to reach out to voters who wouldn't normally have the opportunity to build a stance on the candidate, but we do have a nationwide problem on our hands. ~Will Courtier~
So then is it safe to assume that if this was Obamas idea you would be giving him the same kind of kudos?
Sorry, didn't happen. Obama agreed, as long as "negotiations saw it as useful." He followed suit with a Republican! :-o It would in fact destroy Obama's campaign if he continued. It would show how little he cared about this country's well being, and that he cares more about winning... Come on, think about it.... ~Will Courtier~
I honestly would... I will give props to anyone who shows character and a willingness to actually help us. ~Will Courtier~
Wow, absolutely not. I'm still wondering what other disaster might be visited upon this nation during his last few months. It would be nice "to me" if they both suspended from here on out, then everyone votes on election day. This election cycle feels so incredibly long and repetitive. However, nobody in office would be my first choice out of the 3, sure anthax looks great next ebola, but after that you realize it's still anthrax afterall.
What the hell would McCain do? Consult his advisors? Anyone remember when Ron Paul asked him what'd he do about economy and he stumbled all the way through.
Just so we have the facts straight: Obama: calls McCain wed @8:30am; "we should issue a joint statement on the matter" McCain: "Sounds good. Maybe we should suspend our campaigns?" Obama: "If it's necassary and it would help negotiations then we should" McCain: "Okay" Six hours later McCain issues a press release stating that they will suspend the campaign and they think Obama should do the same. If this wasn't a political stunt then McCain would have said, "Both Obama and I feel that this issue is too big and we have both elected to suspend our campaigns". Nope, instead he took Obama's idea and tried to one up him. But honestly I don't care, I doubt either will add anything to the table.
I think the idea of postponing a debate to "solve the financial crisis" is downright retarded. As if those either one of them are going to make a damn bit of difference in solving the problem at hand. How about they not waste our time and just get on with it? Let the other 98 Senators work on it, I'm pretty sure they'll be okay.
I don't know why he is doing this, well, I know why, but still, it's stupid. He is not going to change anything. They are not going to stop the bill. It sucks, b/c I hate those fucking sub prime lender companies. People are spoiled babies that want what they can't have, and this country needs to collectively stand up against this attitude.
