alright apple, your REALLY starting to get on my nerves. today i dropped the machine off at the new apple store in leawood. they said 10 TO 14 BUSINESS DAYS TO REPLACE THE FUCKING SUPERDRIVE! i would rather pay the 300 to get tech certified and then buy an oem drive and install it myself in 1 hour, than having the local store ship it off to apple in california to get it fixed because they dont do in house replacements yet. dell has better repair and replacement times and they dont have outlet stores.

Errr, can anyone explain to me the appeal of macs now?

Everyone I know keeps getting them (for no real reason), but as I see it you're paying 2x for the same hardware as a $1000 laptop in a shell with an apple on it?

The biggest reason everyone keep telling me is viruses, but if this many people keep switching, I assume we'll start seeing some viruses creeping up.

I'm probably one of the only people interested in getting a MacBook for Serato ScratchLive (the OSX software with the hardware box) and things like Logic Pro..

Other than that, I can tweak Windows enough to where I'm happy with it.

Can you explain the appeal of using Windows to me? Usually it is the comfort zone, you have used it your whole life (so has everyone else). Most people are scared of giving a Mac a go, because they feel like it is throwing a lifetime learning of computer usage out the window.

But anyway OS X is why I love my mac and bought one.
+ the fact the OS is made to work on the hardware.

I got mine two years ago because I was just tired of using windows, felt like giving something else a go. I felt like I was forced to use windows most of my life, because "it is what everyone else uses". But now I don't work with computers in my job, nor do I have any software I am 'tied' down to, nor did I play games on the computer anymore (I have a console for that.) Then I demoed a mac in-store... I liked it. Everytime I went shopping I had to go and check them out. I just really liked them, so I bought one. Never regretted it at all in the slightest.

I don't give a flying fuck what people say about Mac, the fact is I like it and feel their computers are worth the cost (actually they are cheaper now than when I bought mine 2 years ago, + comparable to most pre-built competition in the same league.)

Mac support is rated #1 in Consumer Reports, has been for as long as I can remember. I never had any trouble with mine. But I only used it for a year and went back. As nice as OSX and iLife was I was constantly straddling the void between Apple and Windows and there's just stuff with Windows that I can't live without. And running back and forth with Boot Camp was a pain in the ass and ate a lot of drive space.

Another main reason was I needed a more powerfully laptop and the only thing that Apple offered that was even close to what I eventually bought cost nearly 3X as much. $1,200 for my 2ghz Core 2 Duo w/ Nvidia 512 8800GTS versus $3,000+ for a Mac Pro with an Nvidia 8600GT? I don't think so.

I would have walked it into an Apple store and went monkey shit on them. A brand new machine with failing hardware should be given higher priority than that. And who's to say they aren't going to put refurbed parts in it? I'd be pissed.

when i get it back im gonna file a report with the BBB, chamber of commerce complaint division, write a letter to apple and maybe PC world. as well as go ape shit on whoever i can. i kinda blew up on the person who i dropped it off to saying that dell was better, that this is the second apple product i have owned that has died (first being an ipod 2gen that the battery died and they said i had to buy a new one even with the extended warrenty). i think im just gonna void the warrenty and learn to do the repair and replacements myself Apple Macbook Pro Parts for Repair and Service - 15 inch

Yeah, Dell is better actually. On my wife's laptop I have a 2 year warranty. And best of all I'm Dell certified so I can have the parts shipped directly to me.

i think this thing just needs to go back to newegg. the monkeys up at the apple store didnt close the case properly. its going great along all the other sides then once you get above the CD drive its like BLAM theres a gap. [IMG]
do i take it up there and bitch to no end about there lies and bullshit and stand over them as they fix it or format the drive and give up?

I wouldn't tolerate that for one second. You could call and bitch but it isn't going to do any good unless you're standing right there in the store. I'd demand they fix it while you wait. How far of a drive is it?

the store is at 119 and roe and i live at 151 and nall...so like a 10 minute drive? 45mph the whole way. this will be my 5th trip to the store. im tired of this shit.

this bitch is going back tomarrow when there open and if they refuse to do it while im standing there im gonna demand that they give me the phillips #00 and a torx t6 and let me fix it myself.

if they left the gap there does that constitute destruction of private property?

Hell, I'd almost recommend just buying the tools and fixing it yourself. Too bad the MacBook Pros aren't as easy to open up as my vanilla MacBook was. That shit was super easy.

do they have an aftermarket warrenty for computers out there? like one that i can modify the machine (i.e. add/remove the hard drive) and still have it under warrenty?

Yeah, but it's a damn shame you would need to seek outside support given how good Apple generally is about this sort of thing. How about skipping the local shop and calling the 1-800 number. Politely explain you had to have it serviced new out of the box, and now it hasn't been reassembled properly. My guess is you'll get VERY fast results.

wouldnt they tell me to take it to the nearest ups store put it in an insured box shipped to cuppertino and wait a while for them to do a 5 minute fix?

i just thought about this... [:tinfoil:]you think that this is a ploy to get me to go back there so they can read all the spyware thats on there so they can see i visited tweak3d.net, cnn.com, gmail.com and hungarianbuttsluts.com;) [/:tinfoil:]

Well, I'm a gamer. So i'm a bit biased admittedly. But more everyone I know that is leaving for college are grabbing up macbook pros. When I ask why viruses are the only answer they can give.
It just seems most people are paying more the the badge lately.

I love OSX and how sleek and sexy macs are. But the price gap just boggles my mind. And these "Hi I'm a mac and a PC" commercials are getting more and more obnoxious and insulting at this point. :(

But, I don't mean to turn this into a debate. I guess I should just accept that 90% of consumers are uninformed and just want to match their ipods.
