So who is your guy? Mccain? You know his pastor is spouting just as many hate filed things as the other guy?

However I still don't understand the significance of the connection of the two with regards to being able to run a country.

Welcome to the forums Obama-bots. Good job for a supporting a junior senator with literally almost ZERO leadership experience both politically and in the business world. One of the things that cracks me up the most about Obama, is his vehement cries about his opposition to the war. Guess what, he wasn't even in office when congress was voting on the war. Did you forget about that?

But he's for change, so make sure and vote for change in '08.

As far as the preacher goes, who gives a crap? Do you really think that guy has that much influence over Obama? Whoever gets elected will be better than Bush, but a junior senator being shoved down my throat by the media is far from my first choice.

So is it safe to assume that you aren't for hillary either since she has about as much experience as him (actually less since he was in the state senate unless being first lady is better experience).

And being a ron paul supporter I don't see how you could be for mccain since he doesn't agree (hell he doesn't understand) half of what ron paul stands for.

So of the candidates who are actually running, who are you for?

    You're funny...

    1. Just because Obama has the lead in votes does not mean he's the best candidate. That logic would translate into Bush being a better candidate than Gore. I'm fairly certain that most people would agree that is not true. The wrong decision has been made many times over the course of history.

    2. Hillary was not just the First Lady. She had an accomplished career prior to that. And while Bill Clinton was president, Hillary was no ordinary First Lady, like Laura Bush. She worked actively on issues and was given significant responsibilities. That combined with her being a senator makes for an impressive resume.

    3. It has been widely reported that neither candidate will be able to get the minimum number of delegates required to defeat the other prior to the convention. So the super delegates will decide. Those delegates can be influenced by recent events like Obama's ties to his pastor. So things can easily change.

    4. Polls can also change. Especially if this pastor issue causes him trouble. So in that case, Clinton could also defeat McCain. I don't think America will vote in a 71 year old man. So I think any democrat can win.

    Mod edit
No need for personal attacks of this nature here;)
Lets keep it clean and on topic.

The unfortunate thing is that Obama really only lacks experience at this point. I think in time, he'll be a great candidate for president. If the Democrats were smart, they'd put him on the ticket with Clinton and for the 1st 8 years and then have Obama step in and run for the last 8 years.

Ron Paul is still in the race and I will vote for him as long as he is. At this point, it will come down to VP selections. None of the candidates can stand on their own in my opinion.

It's funny how many people suggest that being First Lady is not worth anything in terms of experience...she's an intelligent woman who would have had opportunity to discuss every significant issue with her husband for his 8 years as president. It's not like it's Laura Bush...who's appears to be as dumb as a fence post. It's Hillary was able to have on the job training for 8 years. It matters...

Most people aren't saying that being the first lady doesn't mean she has no experience they are saying that it doesn't mean she has more experience or better experience.

And I have yet to see anyone state or imply that hillary is an idiot.

We can only hope this keeps the issue in the spot light. I was shocked to see that the story was almost completely ignored this weekend. They actually went back and started talking about the Ferraro thing instead, which was insignificant. There has been a lot of talk about the honeymoon Obama has had with the media. This supports that completely.

I didn't figure the Obama supported would care, but I thought the undecided voters would. It is obvious from this thread that logical arguments go unheard...or perhaps not understood.

Yeap everyone not voting for Clinton is a blind fool.

Perhaps we have different criteria for our choice for the next Pres. of the good ol' US of A. Though I imagine most of it is wanting a fresh choice that's either not four more years of rehashed Bush policies or another four years of a Clinton in the White House.

The 90s are long gone and the 00s are almost up, its time for a change.

Also, continually letting people know that you think you're more intelligent than them isn't the best way to persuade them into thinking like you.

Logical arguments? Like the one that says a pastor of your church means your thinking or ideology is exactly the same as theirs?

Usually if someone subscribes to a particular ideology then their actions would have some indication of said ideology.
Can you point to anything in obamas past that would connect the two.

Good luck with your gamble...Obama is a bit too risky for me.

BTW...my comments with regards to intelligence are directed at the people who try to debate without facts...or just use profanity or smart ass comments...kind of like your post I guess.

Contrary to what you believe, the fact he went there for 20 years says a lot. As I mentioned in a previous post, when you have kids (assuming you care about them), you're careful what you expose them to. I would have pulled my kids from that church for a lot less.

Again, he must have liked (and to some extent agreed with) what he heard. He even selected his pastor as his spirutual advisor for his campaign, knowing his beliefs. He WAS aware of the controvercial statements prior to that selection. He only got rid of him once it became public knowledge. And the replacement pastor sounds just as radical. That is disturbing. Maybe not to you, but it is to me, and I assume to some others. I guess the next primary will tell just how much.

Mr Ali posted concrete delegate counts and you still insulted him. I called you on it and was met with the same sort of belittling.

But rock on you crazy diamond of infallible knowledge, ride that horse long and far.

He didn't get rid of him, the guy was retiring.

Again show me some kind of connection between what his pastor said and obamas actions, past or present.

    Spirutual =
    1. Of, relating to, consisting of, or having the nature of spirit; not tangible or material. See synonyms at immaterial.
    2. Of, concerned with, or affecting the soul.
    3. Of, from, or relating to God; deific.
    4. Of or belonging to a church or religion; sacred.
None of which equals policy making.

Seriously jman, people that come in on high horses usually end up rding out on small mules with humble pie all over their faces.

We might start asking questions...like why someone who is posting from Alberta is so passionate about US politics? ...or why is your moniker unique to this board? Me...my online persona is pretty ubitquitous. You seem to have invented this profile just for this board. Maybe my friends at Shaw cable could tell me what your favorite porn sites are. Post them in NSFW, we'd love to find out more about the man behind the mask.

OK, so Wright repeatedly said radical racist and anti-American statements? Good, we can agree on that. I'll go ahead and fill in the rest:

Can we conclude from his comments that Wright is a racist? Yes.

Can we also conclude that Obama knew Wright's views? Yes.

Did Obama chose him to be a member of his campaign staff? Yes.

Honestly, I can't fathom how you guys can overlook this. If a racist were uncovered that high up in either Clinton or McCain's campaign they would be forced to drop out of the race entirely.

And no, McCain isn't my guy, he's just the last guy left I can stomach. And just barely.

I think the current administration is powerful proof that it's not just about policy, it's about ideology.

Where did I say there was something wrong with his policies? My main issue with the thing is that no one knows what his policies are. They keep throwing out buzzwords and have no fucking idea whats going on.

Good reading comprehension. Way to look like an ass. Reading comprehension is half the battle.

While we're on the subject of his platform though:
Iraq - excluding the bringing the troops home part, nothing new here. The 2nd point is more of the glittering generalities I'm talking about.
SS - the whole system is fucked. Stop screwing the younger generations and axe is already. Its not viable at all. Inflation plus a nation that is constantly getting older means that this is not going to work. All employers having to offer a pension plan is a great way to royally fuck any small companies.
Nat'l healthcare - crock of shit. I don't want to have to support people that can't get a good enough job to pay for health insurance. My employer doesn't offer any, so I have to suck it up and pay for it myself. This is the land of opportunity, not the land of handouts.
The national health exchange isn't bad at all.
technology - yay of course. I do like that he is one of the only candidates with a clear cut stance on net neutrality.
immigration - more of the generalities.
    Regarding the subprime:
    (from his website)
first off, I can't believe they put on there that he has been watching the situation for years...
There isn't much in the way of "predatory lending" - defaulting, bankruptcy etc gives home owners a very easy way out. Look at this kind of stuff: Walk Away Plan - Walk Away From Your Home And Owe Your Lender Nothing
The whole "crisis" was the banks screwing themselves by giving loans to everyone and their mother and then trying to wrap it up in some sort of "investment vehicle" and attempting to make money out of it. The end result for the little guy is that they're going to get to have lived the American Dream for a few years and then their credit is still going to be shit. What would be needed here is regulation on the banks if anything, but we all know that isn't going to happen. I'm personally all for letting one of them eat shit as a lesson to the rest, but the fed won't let that happen.
tax rebates - we're better off giving tax cuts than actual cash. tax cuts = spending, rebates = saving. Not going to help the economy as much (I'll cite this when I get home, one of my econ textbooks has a good link for it)

this is the same thing I'm seeing everywhere. "change" "hope" "truth" etc. Then you ask why, and get a copy and paste from whatever web site is convenient. Why do you support all that stuff? I'm not saying its bad or wrong, but most of the Obama supporters I'm seeing don't know what the hell is going on (granted I am in a haven for college kids and filthy hippies)

I countered each of his points with logical arguments. You really think just because he has a slight lead that Obama is the guaranteed to be the best candidate? Again, at one point in time, Bush got more votes than anyone else it look how things turned out with him. So the delegate count means nothing other than slightly more people think he's the best one. Time will tell...

    Huh?

Yes, I created this profile for this board.

No, you have not seen it elsewhere because I have never participated on a message board before.

I don't see anyone else using their real names here, so I'm uncertain what your issue is with my moniker.

My postings are not written much differently than anyone else's. The only difference is that they land on the other side of the issue than you.

As to why someone from Alberta would be participating in the debate...that should be obvious. You're our largest trading partner and Obama is talking about scraping NAFTA. As the last remaining superpower, you're country has has the potential to have a significant impact on the world in many ways, as it has over the last many years. So electing another president based on promises and not on experience makes me nervous.

As far as your threat to expose my darkest secrets...is my having concerns over Obama bothering you that much??? That's quite an extreme response.

BTW...look away. You'll find I'm no porn junkie.
